Nicholas County Landfill

Nicholas County Landfill (NCL), Class B, encompasses more than 110 acres in North-Central Nicholas County. Approximately 14 acres of the facility can currently receive waste materials and 5 acres has undergone closure.

We are conveniently located within 10 miles of US19.

Open Monday through Friday, from 8:00 am - 4:30 pm

Free Day is the LAST Tuesday of each month, between 8:00 am and 4:30 pm

Tires are NOT accepted on Free Day, customers MUST keep disposal receipts.

We Accept Pre-approved Checks, Cash and Major Credit Cards (up to $1,000).

Acceptable Wastes

Acceptable wastes include the following: municipal, residential, construction/demolition debris, agricultural*, commercial*, non-hazardous industrial*, sludge*, and other solid waste that may be approved by regulators. Tires are accepted.


Prohibited Wastes

Prohibited wastes include the following: free flowing liquids of any description, regulated hazardous wastes, unstabilized sewage sludge, or sludges that have not been de-watered, pesticide containers that have not been triple-rinsed and crushed, drums that are not empty and not crushed, infectious waste, waste containing PCBs at concentrations of 50 part per million or greater, or certain types of municipal incinerator ash.

This facility DOES NOT ACCEPT ‘free’ liquids, hazardous materials, un-stabilized sewage sludge, or infectious waste.  We can help identify unacceptable wastes.  We randomly ‘screen’ incoming wastes for prohibited materials.

Computer or other CED's that have a cracked or broken screen cannot be accepted at the Landfill and must be disposed of at Graybeal Recycling.

Construction & Demolition Waste

Nicholas County Solid Waste Authority is now happy to offer a Construction and Demolition Rate of $37.50/ton. To get the C&D rate all materials must meet WV 33 CSR1 2.38 “Construction/Demolition Waste” Definition.

These procedures MUST BE ADHERED TO when bringing in Construction and Demolition waste to the Nicholas County Landfill!

Landfill Safety Rules

•  All customers must follow instructions given by the ‘cell boss’ for disposal of garbage.

•  No more than two (2) customers are permitted at a time in a disposal (cell) area.

•  All loose loads are required to be tarped until after crossing scales.

•  No customers will be allowed in disposal area unattended.

•  All customers must be wearing appropriate shoes before permitted to exit their vehicle.

•  Yield to EXITING traffic.

•  Please be aware of your surroundings.  Watch for moving landfill equipment and other vehicles.

•  State law prohibits our accepting garbage before 8:00 a.m. or after 4:30 p.m., no exceptions.

•  Residential and commercial customers should wait in line PATIENTLY and NOT SKIP to head of line.  If caught skipping line, you will have to move to the end of the line.

•  Please notify a landfill employee of any customer complaint or suggestion for improving our operations.

•  Obey all posted speed limit signs.

•  Children under 16 and/or pets are not permitted in disposal areas.

•  If you have questions, please ask before taking any action.
